The TMJ/ Craniomandibular disorders

This course will cover how to treat TMJ dysfunction and assess the relationship between cervical spine problems, headaches and the jaw.

“After this course I was surprised how many of my clients with neck pain and headaches also had TMJ symptoms. I found that I was much more effective at treating neck pain and headaches when I assessed and treated the TMJ” - Sydney Physiotherapist, Course Participant.

Tempormandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and associated problems of the craniomandibular region affects up to 60% of the general population. Manual therapy, active exercises and postural correction has been shown to be effective in treating the TMJ and reducing muscle tension.

Do you feel that you have the skills to assess and treat this area? Many of the challenging neck pains and headaches that we see clinically are often related to TMJ disorders. This comprehensive workshop will review the functional anatomy of the temporo-mandibular joint and cover manual therapy techniques to assess and treat TMJ disorders. Typical presentations of craniomandibular disorders seen clinically will also be addressed. These techniques are well suited to a physiotherapy or osteopathic approach.

An introduction to cranial techniques and how these can be a useful adjunct in treating headaches and neck pain will be covered.
