A Trainer’s Guide to Developing Speed and Power

Power output is an essential skill for clients of all types. For the athlete, or weekend warrior, it is necessary to help improve sports performance, but is also essential in injury prevention. Power is also one of the first physical abilities that disappears with ageing, making it a fundamental training component for any anti-ageing, or fitness training program.

This 2-day Power Trainer Course is for Certified Personal Trainers and Coaches who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in helping clients improve Speed and Power output while using the traditional equipment generally available to them at Fitness Centres.

This course is broken down into a number of lectures and practical training workshops and will cover topics such as:

  • The Scientific Foundations of Power
  • Practical Methods for Testing Power Output
  • Olympic Weightlifting Progressions for clients of all ages and fitness levels
  • Plyometrics Training Principles and Exercises
  • Medicine Ball Training for Developing Speed and Power
  • Planning Power Training Programs

By the end of this course, you will understand how to assess your clients’ power output, or lack of it, and to improve speed and power by progressively building from traditional weight training exercises to dynamic power training exercises while using equipment that is generally available in any commercial gym. This in turn will provide you with an extended database of knowledge and exercises that will keep your clients motivated, stimulated, and adapting, for years to come.
 

ABOUT THE TRAINER: MARCEL DAANE

Marcel has a Bachelor of Health Science Degree in Complementary Medicine coupled with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Nutrition and 15 yrs. of experience in the performance coaching field. His credentials also include:

  • NSCA Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist,
  • an ACE "Gold" Certified Advanced Fitness Specialist,
  • ACE certified Mat Pilates instructor,
  • AFPA Sports conditioning specialist, "Master Trainer" for Freemotion Sports,
  • IDEA International Fitness Presenter, and
  • an American Red Cross First Aid CPR Instructor.

 

Marcel is also a lecturer for the Singapore Sports Council’s Sports Medicine and Sports Science Centre which is responsible for standardization and education of the Singapore Fitness Industry.
